| (1) For auditions, are we allowed to
use paper documents for reference,
or do you want everything memorized? |
| You are allowed to use paper documents
for reference, however we
prefer
that everything is memorized.
Papers interfere with delivery
and dampen dynamics. Accordingly,
you will be scored better
without
relying on papers. |

| (2) When
creating the witness' character,
may we make up details that would
go along with the case materials? |
| Absolutely. But, for the sake of the tryout -- BE MOST CREATIVE in your portrayal, not necessarily in making up facts. |
| |
| (3) Is formal dress (suits) reccomended
for try-outs? |
Attire appropriate for the role you are
portraying is recommended. Attorneys
generally wear suits. Witnesses
generally dress well also, but
sometimes they do not. Witness
attire may be a bit more contingent
upon the character you develop. |

| (4) Where
can I find info on
trials and procedures? |
| We ran a quick Google search and came
up with the following link: http://www.criminaldefense.homestead.com/index.html.
Although presented in a criminal
context, the info there is applicable
to civil trials too, for the
most
part.
To maximize, you should use your
own sources. Also, if you have
time, watch a few of the episodes
of "The Practice." It can be
found on Hulu.com. |

| (5) I have a question about the units
for mock trial. I am currently
enrolled in 18 units, so would
it be possible to enroll
in the
Mock Trial class, or would I
have to pay for the additional
unit? |
| If you are already taking the maximum
number of units you may have,
you must
obtain a waiver if you want to
take more -- without paying.
We
have only seen waivers granted
in rare circumstances, but
we have
indeed seen them. If you don't
have a waiver, you'll have
to
pay. If you can't pay, but can't
get a waiver, and have extenuating
circumstances, have your advisor
call us and we'll do our best
for
you. |

| (6) I am a sophomore. Can I register
for the class in both the
Fall
and Spring semesters?? |
| Yes. Just remember that you may only accumulate
eight units of Mock Trial.
We recommend 1 unit classes
after your intital 2 or 4 unit POSC
398 class. POSC combinations
can be structured in different
ways to fit your year of school
(i.e. if you will be a junior
this
Fall you can take POSC 398
every semester until the
end of your
senior year [4 units for Fall
of YR1, 1 unit for Spring
of YR1, 2 units for Fall
of YR2. 1 unit for Spring
of YR2]; if you are an incoming
freshman
this
Fall,
you would be able to
take
POSC 398 along the following
schedule [4 units for Fall
of YR1, 1 unit for Spring
of YR1, 1 unit for Fall of
YR2, 1 unit for Fall of YR3, 1
unit for Fall of YR4];similar
schedules can be worked out for
Sophomores, etc.) This can be
confusing. But, don't worry. Coaches
will assist you with working out
unit schedules.. |

| (7) I have registered and begun classes
already - does this mean
I cannot
compete competitively this year
for the team, since POSC
398 is
required? |
| NO. YOU MAY STILL REGISTER FOR POSC 398
AND COMPETE!!! We'll give
you "D-Clearance"
once you make the Team, then
you can register. |
